What is the best way to dig a fencepost hole right up against my house?

I need to put a fence gate in so my dog can safely play in my backyard. There's already a bit of fence attached to my neighbor's house, that goes about halfway across the space btwn our houses. I plan to put a post right up against my house's outer wall, since I'm wary of actually attaching the fence to my house.

How on earth do I dig a hole as close to the wall as possible? I was looking at a manual auger, but the arm needs to turn 360 degrees. I have a feeling I might lose control of a power auger and end up with a new, unwanted “window”
